Airo Service Explains the FPL AC Rebate: What Actually Qualifies

The utility rebate is real, but it carries an efficiency threshold and a contractor requirement — and two other FPL rebate programmes have quietly disappeared.

Airo Service is publishing a plain explanation of the residential air conditioning rebate offered by Florida Power & Light, following a period in which federal incentives have lapsed and utility programmes have become the principal remaining source of support for South Florida homeowners replacing cooling equipment.

What the programme requires

FPL currently offers an instant rebate on the purchase of a new energy-efficient air conditioning system. Based on the utility’s published programme standards, qualification requires a complete system meeting a SEER2 efficiency threshold, installed at a residential FPL address by a contractor participating in the utility’s programme.

Airo Service emphasises three conditions homeowners frequently miss: the rebate applies to a complete system rather than a single component, the equipment must meet the efficiency threshold in force at the time of installation, and the installation must be performed by a contractor enrolled in the utility’s programme.

What has been discontinued

Airo Service notes that utility programmes are revised, capped and withdrawn without public notice, and that some FPL residential rebate offerings — including duct system repair and window film — are no longer published.

“Utility rebates are the most misquoted thing in this industry,” said Roman Shatokhin, Founder of Airo Service. “Contractors print a number in a brochure and then it sits there for three years after the programme changed. The only thing worth telling a customer is what the utility says today.”

Airo Service’s stated practice

  • Programme status is checked at the time of quoting rather than reproduced from prior-year material.
  • Rebates are never presented as guaranteed, and are not deducted from a quoted price in advance of confirmation.
  • Efficiency requirements are stated against the specific equipment proposed, taken from the model’s rating rather than a general claim.
  • Homeowners are directed to verify current terms with the utility before making a purchase decision that depends on them.

Where the rebate sits in the wider picture

With the federal 25C credit ended for property placed in service after 31 December 2025, and Florida’s state-administered federal rebate programmes not yet open to applications, utility and manufacturer programmes together with financing represent the practical support available to most South Florida households in 2026. Airo Service advises homeowners to make the equipment decision on the merits of the system and the installation, and to treat any incentive as a reduction in cost rather than a reason to buy.
