- Federal 25C tax credit — no longer available. The Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025. Through the 2025 tax year it was worth up to $600 for a qualifying central AC and up to $2,000 for a qualifying heat pump. Many contractor sites and older guides still advertise those figures — they do not apply to a 2026 installation. If your system was installed during 2025, ask your tax preparer whether you can still claim it on that year's return.
