SEER2 is the updated efficiency rating for air conditioners, in effect since 2023 (it replaced SEER with a tougher, more realistic test). In the Southeast, including Florida, new split-system central ACs must be at least 14.3 SEER2. A higher SEER2 means lower running costs — which pays off in our long cooling season. What SEER2 actually means

SEER2 (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio 2) measures how much cooling you get per unit of electricity over a season. Higher = more efficient = lower bills. It replaced the old SEER rating in 2023 using a tougher test that better reflects real-world conditions, so SEER2 numbers run a bit lower than the old SEER numbers for the same equipment.

Florida's minimum

Because we're in the Southeast region, new split-system central air conditioners installed in Florida must be at least 14.3 SEER2 (equivalent to the old 15 SEER). Many homeowners choose higher — 15.2, 16 or more — for bigger savings.

Does a higher SEER2 pay off here?

In most of the country the payback is slow. In South Florida it's different — your AC runs eight to ten months a year, so a more efficient system recovers its cost faster and keeps saving. We'll show you the honest math for your home rather than just selling the biggest number.

FAQ

What SEER2 is required in Florida?

New split-system central ACs must be at least 14.3 SEER2 in the Southeast region, which includes Florida.

Is a higher SEER2 worth it in South Florida?

Often yes — because the AC runs most of the year here, a higher-efficiency system recovers its cost faster than in cooler states.

What's the difference between SEER and SEER2?

SEER2 uses a tougher, more realistic test introduced in 2023, so its numbers run slightly lower than old SEER ratings for the same unit.
