Airo Service: The Federal AC Tax Credit Is Gone for 2026 Installations

MIAMI, Fla. — September 6, 2026

Airo Service is advising South Florida homeowners that the federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit under Section 25C is no longer available for air conditioning and heat pump installations completed in 2026, and is cautioning that a significant amount of contractor advertising and consumer guidance still presents the expired credit as current.

What changed

Section 25C was terminated by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Public Law 119-21, signed on 4 July 2025. The credit ended for property placed in service after 31 December 2025. A central air conditioner or air-source heat pump installed in 2026 cannot claim it.

No direct federal tax credit replaced Section 25C for air-source heat pumps in 2026.

Why this matters more than it sounds

“The credit was worth up to $600 on a central air conditioner and up to $2,000 on a heat pump, and a lot of quotes were built around it,” said Roman Shatokhin, Founder of Airo Service. “We are still seeing it advertised. If a homeowner budgets for a number that no longer exists, they find out at tax time, not at signing. We would rather be the company that tells them now.”

Airo Service states plainly that any 2026 quote presenting the 25C credit in the present tense should be questioned, and that no contractor should be reducing a customer’s effective price on the strength of it.

What remains available

Airo Service advises homeowners that the remaining pathways are utility and manufacturer programmes rather than federal tax credits:

• Utility rebates. FPL currently offers an instant rebate on qualifying high-efficiency systems. Requirements, amounts and eligibility change without notice and should be verified with the utility at the time of purchase.
• Manufacturer and seasonal promotions, which vary by brand and by month.
• Financing, including $0-down and 0% options on approved credit, which changes the cash-flow question rather than the price.
• State-administered federal rebate programmes, which in Florida have not yet opened to applications — addressed separately by Airo Service.

The company’s position on incentive claims

Airo Service does not present rebates or credits as guaranteed, and reviews the incentive information on its website against current programme status rather than leaving prior-year figures in place. Homeowners are advised to ask any contractor for the specific programme name, the administering body and the current status — and to treat a vague reference to “government rebates” as a reason to ask harder questions.
